Brussels sprouts munched

Hi all.

My mum brought me some lovely purple-leaved brussels sprout plants in July. However, as soon as there was nobody at home to keep an eye on them for a few days in August, Small White caterpillars ate all the leaves and reduced them to sticks!

In the past week, most of the plants have developed small leaves at the base, and they're growing relatively quickly. Is it wishful thinking to imagine they might recover in time to give me some sprouts? Or is September a bit late in the season for them to get going again?

Cheers!

Did they look like this? Cabbage white butterflies. Live in hope.image

Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.
  • They will grow well until the frosts come then they will just stand there looking stoic.

  • Nah, those are Large Whites, mine were the much better camouflaged Small variety! I can see now why my mum didn't like me raising them in jars :]

Thanks barry island, I'll hope for more weather like we're having today then.
