2nd is Physostegia virginiana, the Obedient plant, because the flowers stay where you move them to on the stem.

Cannot help on the first, don't do indoor plants.

  • Thanks  a lot Berghill, brilliant!  The 1st is some sort of orchid that he was given last week for his 90th birthday..... now he needs to find out how to care for it, the tag was removed so we have no details!!

The first one is a dendrobium orchid. Water it once a week and let all water drain through. Semi shaded position is best. The occasional feed with orchid feed will help.

    I think 2 is a Chelone, possibly C. obliqua

Changed my mind, it is a Chelone. Senior moment, as I was looking at Phyostegia in the garden just before I came on.

  • Thanks so much, you are all so brilliant! I wish I knew about, and could put a name to,all these lovely plants etc. like all of you can. Sadly I even have trouble knowing what is a weed and what is a seedling (esp. when I've direct sown). I also wish that I could offer advice in return for all of your help.............maybe one day image xx
