Preperation for the big day!

TootlesTootles Posts: 1,469

I've been Jammin' all day! Started at 7.30am and just taking my apron off.

After much research, trials and errors, I've mastered (sort of!) most of my entries into the Preserves and Pickles Class for the village show next Saturday. I take pleasure in presenting (left to right);

Blackberry Jam (Thane Prince recipe but cutting corners!)

Blackberry Jam (Thane Prince recipe done correctly!)

Raspberry Jam (Dehlia Smith recipe)

Raspberry Jelly (Thane Prince recipe)

Mango and Greengage Jam (made up recipe - quite chuffed!)

Lemon Curd (Thane Prince recipe)

Lemon Curd (Mrs Beeton recipe)

 Tomorrow I'll finish off the Elderberry and Apple jelly, Strawberry jam and grapefruit marmalade. Then it's time to measure my cucumbers!! Can't wait!!

    Presumably, with jam in, FG.

    Did you grow your own mangoes, Tootles? image

    VERY impressive, whatever.  I've never managed more than on jam per session.   How did you get the blackberry to set in the end?

    Thanks all. Back to it this morning! Kitchen full of lovely smells, and creative use of a chair to drain the fruit for jelly!

    Eeeek, I didn't think about having to have grown the produce! Just checked the rules and Pickles and Preserves can be from shop bought fruit and veg. Phew!

    Picked a load of fresh blackberries and followed the recipe more carefully. I think I may have over boiled it last week. This time I trusted the timings and despite it looking really funny, the wrinkle test worked so I bottled it up.

    Im very excited about doing marmalade later! Not made it before. Tips very gratefully received!
