I think it is Vitex Agnus Castus. I have one. Prune it like a buddlea, hard in March. Likes warmth.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Busy-lizzie I see you have a vitex and prune it hard in march.  How much to cut back?

I cut mine to about 3 feet tall.
This thread is dated 2015 and doesn't have the name of the shrub in the title. Best to start a new thread with a better title when asking advice. I only looked at it because the original question was asked by a friend of mine.

Can I cut it in half?

@jamesholt - did you know you can tag a particular person by the method I've just used?  You type @ and then immediately start typing the name.  The one you want will appear in a box and you click on it - then the tag becomes live when you post your question, and the person you've tagged will get an email alerting them that you've mentioned their name.  Then you have a better chance of a reply...   :)
