Laugh at my carrots

katvetkatvet Posts: 45

Today I lifted my first attempt at carrots - enjoy laughing at them! It's all a learning curve image I have a few of plants I would like some help to ID too please - one I think may be a honeysuckle that's appeared growing over a pile of stone (not seen any flowers on it yet though), not sure about the one with berries or the shrub that's just come out with little white flowers, I've got a few of both of these around the garden!

A tip for carrots that someone gave me ages ago and it seems to work; add sand or gritt to the soil. It helps them to grow straight down due to the density of the mix (I think)! works fir me anyhow, although I quite like the comedy ones!

  • The carrots look better than mine.  I never can grow them. image Carrot flies just love me.

Well done katvet! At least you have carrots! I have tried for several years to no avail. This year I sowed again ( 'cos I like a challenge ) fortunately not expecting a crop and sure enough I have none. This year I looked out of the window to see a line of starlings pecking at the seed row. I left it just in case, who am I kidding, I can't grow carrots image

Your carrots seem to be enjoying themselves!

Did you use manure or some sort of dressing on the ground before you sowed them?
That will cause carrots to do this (forking) - and maybe you didn't thin them out enough.
Best to prepare a carrot bed by digging in manure or similar in the autumn and let the weather and worms do the rest.

I'm sure they will taste great though
