Clematis

I have a wonderful summer flowering clematis which as no more flowers on it,can I prune it back hard or leave it till Febuary

    Leave till feb arthur, it gives the plant time to take in the energy needed to get going next year, British weather dependent of course.

    You can cut off the dead flowers now if you want to tidy it up a bit.  While the seed heads can be decorative, removing them now allows more goodness to go into the roots ready for next year's flowers.

  • Thanks for that I also have a Bees Jubilee clematis which flowers in in spring and late summer but I never get late summer flowers,should I leave that till feb to prune

    Yes Arthur, main prune in Feb.  To help get the late summer flowers on that type you need to dead-head it as soon as the spring flowers have finished or it it puts energy into making seeds.
