Bug hotel

I recieved a fantastic bug hotel as a gift and would like to put it up this autumn in our new garden.

The middle section has an opening door and is designed for hibernating lacewings, butterflies etc and recommends filling with straw. I have no straw, would shredded paper work?

  • No don't use shredded paper.

I could send you some if you live in the city and nowhere near any pet shops.    We've got about 600 tonnes of it image

twigs and dried leaves work just as well and they are free!

  • Thanks for the offter NorthernLass2 but I think I might try the twigs and leaves image

Not sure much will find its way into the bug hotel this year in a new build garden. Will need lots of flowers to attract them in next summer image
