Bag lady

I do hate it when people presume you can't afford something because you are not wearing Gucci. I went into the garden centre before work and picked up a few Daphne odora aureomarginata becasue I thought at 12.99 for a mature plant they were pretty reasonable. The woman behind the counter said to me, "You do realise those plants are ??12.99 each" with a very haughty expression. I replied, "I'm sorry do I look like I can't afford them" and she looked at me down the end of her nose and said absolutely nothing. I couldn't believe it! I thought I looked quite nice this morning, clearly I must have looked like a bag lady :-/

Sounds like a Pretty Woman moment!
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • It says more about her ill-breeding than your outfit. Lou.  Can you imagine the Queen looking "down the end of her nose" at you?

  • But £12.99 isnt even that expensive for a plant

I know Rainbowfish, I must have looked really cheap image I did have three of them. There has been many a time when I've been tempted to put on one of those floral kaftans from the saga catalogue but I'd like to stay married a bit longer image

Maybe someone had complained about the price earlier and left them at the counter and she'd had to get them returned to where they came from .............. but still totally unacceptable behaviour, and not good business practice on the GC's behalf anyway - if she'd made any comment at all it should have been to remark on what good value they were!

I think I'd let the management know that some Customer Service training is required before they start losing customers image

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • Perhaps she'd just heard they were on the RHS web site being sold for £19.99 and £29.99   image

    Get over it.

  • Lol. FLoral kaftan sounds comfortable. My OH just doesn't comment anymore on my eccentricities (which I think is worse)

Perhaps that is just how the worman looks/speaks. Some people are just rude in general.

Lou - I'd have left them on her counter and gone elsewhere.

Even if I really wanted them

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
