hi all any ideas as to what this fruit is? My friends sent me this picture asking if I want any of the mystery fruit for jam.

Something of the plum family. Difficult to say as there is no scale to compare it to and no branch with leaves. Taste it.

Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.

Agree, Pansyface.  Looks like an under-ripe sloe or damson, but it could be any number of things...  If it's a sloe it'll taste revolting, and if it's an under-ripe damson it'll be quite tart.

Not spherical enough to be a sloe. Looks more plum-like.

  • Could it be a un-ripened sloe perhaps, or a greengage? certainly in the plumb family.
