orange (not red) strawberries

Many of the plants of our Cambridge Favourite strawberries have not turned red this year. They stayed a dark orange colour aand the surface was slightly soft. They tasted OK, not quite the same as the red ones, but they were ripe. We also grow Honeoye and Symphony and they were not affected. Any ideas, please?

Cambridge Favourite are a lighter red than Honeoye and Symphony - described here as 'light red' http://www.gardenersworld.com/plants/fragaria-x-ananassa-cambridge-favourite/1502.html

Could it be that they just look paler by comparison with the darker fruited varieties?

Thanks for the idea, but that's not the solution. Uptil this year, they have been fine and not all our plants have gone like this, just some of them.

Hmmm - have you lifted any of the plants to have a look at the roots - possible vine weevil infestation weakening the plants?

Could be a virus? By the way, you can purchase black strawberries from China on e-bay. And melons with flesh all the colours of the rainbow.!!!! Hate to think how they produce them. You most certainly will not catch me eating them.
