Dying climbing Hydrangea

Hello all,

A climbing Hydrangea in my garden appears to be dying. Can anyone offer a lifesaving solution? Nothing has been done to disturb it and shrubs in my neighbour's garden (behind it) are flourishing.

Thanks in advance

Could something have cut the roots? The dieback is quite dramatic. Did it happen suddenly or bit by bit?

Could the earth have suddenly and unexpectedly dried up? They do like moist ground.

Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.
