Hi,
Can anyone tell me what this plant is please?
Photo isn't great I'm afraid
I've just moved in to a cottage and the garden is a wilderness but I don't want to go in wildly hacking at things...
As I'm a total novice to gardening but loving the fact that I now have a huge garden, I'd be grateful for any help...

It is a thug which suckers all over the place. Taken three years of spraying with strong weed killer to get it down to a few stems on the road side verge along side our property. Had to be removed as it was threatening to take over the garden.
