What is this pesky plant/weed/tree?

Hi all, new here!
Could someone please advise on what this plant is? My garden has been a bit neglected of late for various reasons, now I'm pulling millions of these out all over the place. But to my alarm, in 2 instances, the damn thing has grown into a small tree.
What is the best way to neutralise and remove these things once they've gotten big? Sorry i know next to nothing about gardening, although I'm quite happy to get my hands dirty. Bit late with this one though...
Any advice much appreciated.

Whatever you do, you need to get the dreaded things out, dig, glyphosate anything
Ooh ok. You're talking to a total newb here. Saw the thing off, then cover it with glyphosate?
No, dig it up if it's not too big but glyphosate works on leaves, so needs to be sprayed onto leaves. It kills everything so if there are plants there you want, protect them. Follow the instructions on the pack.

Must glyphosate be sprayed on, necessitating purchase of a sprayer as well as the stuff? or can it be painted on the leaves or something?
