My plant of the moment

I have never really been a fan of Kniphofia (Red Hot Pokers) because they always seemed too large and sprawly, especially for a small garden.
However I picked up this Kniphofia (Papaya Popsicle) from our botanic garden that was selling them off half price last autumn.I picked it because it said it was a smaller more compact variety and was drought resistant. It looked a bit sorry for itself over the winter in its pot and I planted it in the garden in the spring. It took a while to get going then started putting out lots of lovely green grass like leaves. Then last week it started to flower and I was blown away,it has several flower spikes and many more to come. The garden is dry just now yet this seems to be flourishing in the heat.Time will tell if it is a winner in the garden in the future but for this year it is superb!
