Tree Lilies

I planted three tree lily bulbs in a large pot last year and had three nice lilies. This year I had two come through, one withered and disappeared the other came through but the buds fell off, it then too disappeared. Any ideas on what happened to them?

Check the compost for white maggots chewing the roots.
