Plum Tree is giving two different fruit
in Fruit & veg
Hi,
Our plum tree normally has Victoria plums, this year we have a number of plums waiting to ripen, but also some other smaller rounder yellow pink plums which are ripe now. How is this possible, can any body please help thanks

Your tree is grafted and is growing from below the graft.

well it does not seem to be, and other years we have only had one type of plum. It is a well established tee thanks
I think all cultivated plum trees are grafted rather than on their own roots. Someone will correct me if this is not the case.
Can you upload a picture?

Really, I thought we were lucky to be getting two types of plums, or is that going to be bad for the tree?
The stock plant will grow much stronger than the grafted plum so will be huge in a few years but will also give you beautiful blossom in the spring. I let my dual plum just grow and it now has purple, yellow and red plums on it , all delicious but it has grown into a forest sized multi-stemmed tree which is breathtakingly beautiful for many weeks in the spring. Only if you have a very large garden like I have should you let it have its head.
Thanks for that, our garden is quite large, so do I just prune it back in October, so I can keep both plums?
Prune it anytime from now on but not in the winter or you may get silverleaf disease. I have done mine .
