Potatoes: Failed Chitting Recovery!
in Fruit & veg
Hi there,
i am a first time potato grower and put my seed potatoes in an egg box to chit but the small growths seem to have shrivelled backwards and look dead. i think the room i had them in may have been too cold? is there anything i can do or are they destined for teh compost heap? i have read somewhere that you can rub the growths off and new ones will grow but will that work in this instance?
cheers,
russell.

hi niceaddress, i would put them in anyway,a few people i know dont chit them just put them in what have you got to lose, although i have done this in an old dustbin i still got tatties so if its the bin or the ground why not give it a go.
I wouldn't rub anything off them. Just let them be and they will go on sprouting.
Do not put them in the compost heap. You will be mad as hell when they grow perfectly fine there.
We had some last year and we put some in that chitted and some in that didn't both in the ground and also in bags..... mainly just to see, all 4 sets gave out spuds which where perfectly fine, chuck em in!
