Your bamboo looks like a clump forming variety so should stay  reasonably well  contained especially as it looks as if it's been there a while. Some 'run' underground and they're the ones which cause a problem.  If bits pop up you can hack them off at ground level. Keep an eye out for any bits coming through on other areas anyway. Plant pic 2 definitely looks like a skimmia which are lovely in the right place but it doesn't look too happy. Always exciting having a new plot!imageGood luck with it!

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Lots of Heather you have there image

Makes a lovely carpet doesnt it?

You can trim that after its flowered to stop it getting woody down below.

As for the bigger conifers I guess you can leave those be though I dont really have much experience with those :P

I wouldnt do anything with the dwarf conifers, just trim the heather as matt says.

This is blooming nicely, but there is a few pigeons arrived over the last few weeks and they are now eating the flowers image

Is there anything i can do to deter them?

I will post another few pics later in the week for you all to see the progress

Shotgun? Pigeons are a real pest at the moment with buds. Your tree is small enough to net but it would be ugly. You could try hanging CDs from it like some demented Xmas decorations.
