Rhododendron. Are there flower buds on it? Don't think that will come big as there are some dwarf varieties. That will need a top dressing of ericaceous compost now.

Variety again will ahve to wait till you have flowers.image

There are flower buds on it, you dont need to prune this at all.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Good Luck, don't take anything our for at least one year, see what you have got and then add..

Don't prune the rhododendron. When it has finished flowering you can pick the dead flowers off very carefully to tidy it up. It will be making new shoots under them for next year. Don't water with alkali water, rain water is best.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • wonder what colour your rhododendron will be - exciting image

On the last picture - what are the stems like?

    Hi Rosa,

Here is a closer look at the stems. If the pic doesn't show them up well they seem to be healthy and strong.

Hydrangea - can be pink or blue - You can take off the heads now take the stem down to the first fat bud after the flower head
