Freckles clematis flowering now ??

I bought a freckles clematis a couple of years ago. I thought I had lost it as it died off and didn't regrow - until this summer. It is supposed to be winter flowering, but it is now in flower - is this unusual ??

Mine does what it likes when it likesimage

I'm thinking off dumping it. Sometimes it goes brown and dies back in winter cold, sometimes in summer dry and heat. It never looks luxurious.image

Mine does the same as nut's!  It can get quite rampant in some areas of my garden and tries to take over an area or produces just a few weak stems in other places - no rhyme nor reason as far as I can see. image

I planted mine in early spring 2014, it flowered in the following summer then again in the winter, and it's flowering again now - it's doing quite well image

  • Thanks for your replies !! Very interesting image The foliage is quite good considering it has only grown in the last few months. I'll persevere a bit longer and see what it does in the winter and next year !!

It's on a north-facing trellis fence (hiding the bins) in the west-facing front garden (does that make senseimage) between some summer flowering clematis, so gets a hefty dollop of clematis fertilser a couple of times a year.
