Replace Thorny Shrub

I have a Berberis Ottawensis Purpurea that looks great but the thorns are viscious. Can anyone suggest a thornless replacement please.

    They are vicious aren't they. The Physocarpus called Diablo and some similar clones are in the same colour range, and painless

    However, they are a wonderful place of refuge for small birds escaping from sparrowhawk predation and as such an ideal shrub to have near to your bird feeding station image
