Ants in compost

hi folks,

I was wanting to use the soil/ compost at the bottom of my compost heap, I have one of the large round drum style, but there appears to be an ants best in it. Can I use anything to get rid of the ants yet still be able to use the soil/compost?

Once you dig out the compost heap, the ants will disperse and you will be able to use the compost. You won't need to use any chemicals to get rid of the ants.

I think they help the compost process too, as Ceres says they will run away as you break the compost up. I had a large nest in my compost last year as I was turning it over, when I went back a few weeks later it was gone.
