clearing a new plot

I am starting a brand new plot about 10m by 5m.  Checking on the weed situation i have found lesser celadine growing all over it.  What is the best way to get rid of it please

Bit of a tricky one to eradicate completely-just dig out what you can-or use a glyphosate weed killer like Roundup.

  • Glyphosate, then when it's died back, try and get out as much of the roots as you can.  Same thing over and over again when it comes back, it will get the message eventually and not come back.

Remember to give at least two weeks between apply glyphosate and digging up, to allow it to be absorbed into the roots.

This stuff is sneaky. It's not above ground for all that long. You spray it. It dies (or looks as though it has), and doesn't reappear this season.

    Next year back it comes

  • That's why you gotta try and dig up as much root as you can find.  No roots = no plant.

But like all weeds, it can seem to come back from the slightest bit of root you miss.

I had a similar problem getting rid of Chinese Lantern, it had invaded my entire little flower garden; I dug up 3 sacks of roots, even sieving some of the soil to make sure I had every tiny bit. It worked gentle readers; I only had to dig out a few small bits for a couple of years.image
