Gap filling

Hi. I have a brand new garden planted from scratch last Autumn & this Spring. The foxgloves have been phenomenal. Over five/six feet tall and prolific. Now that they have seeded (yes deliberately for next year) I've cut them down and I'm left with large gaps where they stood. Any ideas what I can fill them with before the foxgloves return? South facing garden. I prefer perennials where possible.

Hi Lua - I have Cimcifugas  with foxgloves. They make big plants with tall flower spikes of scented flowers. They start flowering around late July/August. They like some shade and soil that's not too dry so you may have to position them carefully. The dark foliage ones look smart amongst green or variegated plants. You could also have smaller, autumn flowering shrubs or perennials in front which will disguise the empty spaces. It all depends on what space you have too. image

Lua - the old name for Cimcifuga is Actea.

Verd is our resident joker on the forum, although his jokes aren't as good as mine image
