Hi all , another fine day on the allotment temps in the early teens but a very sharp frost forecast for tonight , Bunny on the subject of nettles if a plant is in the wrong place its called a weed ,take the advice as Sotongeoff kindly gives it ,if you want to cultivate nettles i am sure you would be able to fine a suitable spot
When the nettles start growing, pinch out the top young shoots and make yourself some nettle soup - it's delicious (does need stock adding though ) - then apply any weedkiller you need to!
The nettles are in a space a foot wide the full distance of back of greenhouse and a 6ft fence other side of them , they grow all against greenhouse resulting in slugs and snails on greenhouse and they grow into greenhouse so yes I'm afraid they are a pain. Having a field at the back of garden I allow nettles to grow freely against my garden fence ...for butterflies I'm not completely against them ...just there.
The chickens have destroyed the ground on their side , they can't get through to my side ...good job as I have a dog who will play chase the chicken
I shall have another go at them tomorrow once I've recovered from today efforts.
I get nothing from the neighbours ....other than chicken poo smell on a nice day
Today I shall have another dig , roundup,, put membrane down and some flags on top as need to raise area to stop heavy rainwater pouring from chicken corner through to mine

Are they really such a nuisance? Many butterfly caterpillars, particularly the peacock butterfly
Whoops, some thing went wrong there, got cut off! What also wanted to say was, perhaps you could just leave one or two plants for them?

Thanks all.
Oh ok, I understand the problem now, but I hope you at least get some chicken poo from the neighbours to manure your garden.
