Yes - seems Sycamore are not very popular!
Not sure what to plant in its place now? I would like an elegant tree that doesn't cast too much shadow. Something slender would be ideal. I love cherry blossom, or maybe that one with red leaves (acer?)
I love the look of that Amelenchier! That is a tree I am going to plant.
I'm a big fan of fruit trees on dwarving rootstock. Pretty blossom in spring, not difficult to keep in check and good for wildlife. Free fruit is a nice bonus.
Bob - I do like that idea. Just struggling where to put them. Can fruit trees be planted in flowerbeds? I always thought that they needed bare soil around the base?
Jo - That's a lovely looking tree. Another one on my planting list. I need a bigger garden.
Yes, I have several in my borders. You can even go for the 'patio' type which don't need much room at all, as those can be grown in large pots. I just make sure nothing 'rampant' is planted too close to them!
