Tubular Salvias not good for bees?

I have a Salvia Amistad and a Wendy's Wish. I've noticed that bees love to go to them, but then try to get to nectar between the tube and the calyx, so not actually figuring out how to get in. They all seem to do this. Are my local bees a bit silly or is it the non-tube forms of Salvia that are best?

  • I think some bees bite through the base of the tube to get at the nectar.  Hope yours figure it outimageimage
