climbing rose roots covered in ants

just discovered why my climbing rose wasn't flowering like the others I have it seems that a nest of black ants have decided too move in and take over the roots... ive now moved it to another place with any luck it, will be ok has anyone else had problems with ants taken over and how to get rid of them would be great

Ants like dry soil - keep the soil moist and they'll move on.  Rather than moving the rose I'd have drenched it with water and kept it damp.

They will normally move somewhere else rather than down: you are hoping that they will move into another location that doesn't bother you - your house or another plant for instance. It's a live and let live situation as you'll never be able to get rid of them.
