Ancient Apple tree

I have an apple tree in my garden, that could be pretty old, and it has stopped producing fruit. Now I get just a few apples on the top branches, How can I put life back in to it and increase the fruit production, there is a fellow apple tree in the field next door so I’m sure it gets pollinated. I am a novice gardener so not an expert!  Help, please.

It may take a couple of years as it will involve removing some branches, especially central ones and crossing over ones, so don't do it all at once. Here is some advice to click on from the RHS.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Thank you very much, I do not think I will remove as suggested in the link as it is attractive where it is, But I will give pruning a go and see if it benefits from that. Thanks again
