Hi any poppy lover. My poppies this year have been fantastic but now they have finished. Is it best to leave them as they are, or to cut back. Not sure what do do. Help please.
If they have the big seed heads then leave them to ripen and you can eat the seeds. They're great in bread. Otherwise you can chose whether to cut them back or allow some of the seeds to ripen and they self seed around everywhere you want them ( and where you don't want them).
I have loads of poppies come from my top soil I was hoping to collect the seeds as they looked to me like carnations very pretty, how do I collect seeds?
Thank you but... There in the wrong place I wanted these poppies in my front garden there all out the back next to my pond where we had the top soil dropped off
Thank you Thomzo and nutcutlet I am pretty sure mine are the oriental poppies. They have big seed heads so I think I will leave some of them, to ripen and have a go putting them in bread. The rest I will pick collect and put somewhere else in my garden and then cut back to tidy up/
I've just pulled out my cornfield annual poppies and now have bare patches. Is there anything I could direct sow now or will I have to buy plants? I was trying not to allow myself to buy anything else this year. (At least until I get my bulbs for spring)

There are the perennial ones called oriental poppies, you can cut those back, leaves as well and more leaves will grow.
and the opium poppies, the annuals with light green leaves
and the ones that are deived from field poppies in varoious colours, also annual.
the last two can be left to seed or pulled up
