planting a red hot polker planting

hello, I would he most gratell for some advice please - i have been given a red hot poker plant and I would like to know if it will grow in a large planter, or should I plant it in the ground? Any advice would be much appreciated,

    Best in the ground, you could grow in a pot but it won't be as happy. They like well drained soil.

    I've got 2 in the garden. Looks healthy but not in flower yet.

    I bought three bare root pokers from Parkers last  year, this year they are huge, and coming out for a walk to the compost bin. They do prefer to be in the ground, but they do spread and  are a bit of a thuggish plant, unless it's just my variety.

    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
