This little chap goes by the name of Rhogogaster viridis, or green sawfly to his friends.

He came to join me for lunch, failed to appreciate the sticky qualities of mayonnaise, lost his footing, fell backwards into the lettuce but finally managed to right himself. After that he spent several minutes furiously flapping his wings and spraying mayo everywhere. Then he flew off with a note to himself to keep away from plates of lettuce and stick to buttercups.

Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.

Are the stripes on his legs painted with mayo?

He's very handsome. I don't think I've seen one of those

Oh wow, well if I run from shield bugs, I'd be upstairs and under the bed if this landed ! Never seen anything like that before ..... Amusing post , hope you still enjoyed your mayo x

Yes, the photo was taken before his adventure. His eyes were the most stunning electric blue.

He looks enormous but he was only about a centimetre long.image

    And somewhere on the hill
Inside the past we hear the bells
    Catching only parts of thoughts
    And fragments of ourselves
    Till we begin
    Again

Was he then off to the "ugly bug ball" do you think?
