We have been trying to sort out the garden and have this shrub that we do not know what it is called. The plant is about 3-5m high and the spread is the same, fast growing and it seem to only flower on old wood.
Thanks. Getting that close up picture of the flowers and the branches, I think that you've got a buddleia there, but it isn't one I've seen before. They do grow fast. My previous garden had a row of them at the bottom of the garden and each one had different coloured flowers. I used to cut them back hard in October and they soon made up the growth the following year. You'll get lots of bees and butterflies too.
Wow, thanks for your help that it is spot on. New to gardening as now have lots of time on my hands so looking forward to learning about plants and how to look after them.
We cut it back hard in the spring, not knowing that we wouldn't have many flowers this year. I am reading on how to take some cuttings so we can plant some more. I have been looking for a long time to find this plant as we thought it was a type of flowering willow. I have some other large shrubs with flowers, that we have been trying to find out about before we cut back and try and get the garden back in control. I will add some more pictures tomorrow but didn't want to bombard with lots of requests in the forums. Many thanks
I have been taking some pictures of the overgrown garden, and the plants that I cannot identify, do I add the pictures to this thread or would I start a new discussion?
Welcome to you Craig. Hope you enjoy finding out about all the plants in your garden.
Nut's right - start a new thread and put a few pix on at a time of anything you're unsure of. Lots of highly knowledgeable, friendly people on here who will help you.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Does it have berries at all?
I don't remember seeing any berries, but we have only been here for two years. I will take some pictures of the stems, but grows very fast.
Here are some better pictures

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies and help.

I'd start a new one Craig. The plant IDers will have looked at this thread and might not re-visit
