Mony and Carol were my inspiration to start gardening on a big scale, He does do some things I dont agree with, but then some of the answers on here I dont agree with either. We all do it differently and it obviously works for us all.
With the cosmos, Monty showed us how he chops them back by half with the secateurs. He was very wise to say not to let them flower until they are big plants.
I love hanging baskets, if you give them a good soak at night they have 14 hours to drink and stay wet, there is no need for twice daily watering. That is only for daytime waterers!
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
I've been wondering where to fit in a nursery bed Hosta the only spots. I have are covered with lawn do you think the chairman will notice I have loads in pots that would benefit from proper planting but will have to suffice on steps ,seats, table ,bbq make shift scaffolding shelf and any vacant place available.
Oh dear ... this thread took a turn I was not expecting. I suppose I should have said that at least Monty does some things the way normal mortals do too. Another example of foot in mouth syndrome.
I'm sure you stumbled unwittingly into the dragon's den, Outdoor girl..........now if I had started such a thread!
I also watched the programme and used to wonder about the way he planted stuff. I've worked out that he shows people what to plant and how to plant but hasn't got the time (because the programme is only on for half an hour) to do it "properly". Bet when the cameras have finished and gone, he'll go back and plant things the way they should be planted eg: plant at the right depth and water in thoroughly. Sometimes I think he looks tired and was glad to see him sitting with his dog

I'm not sure how many gardeners are lucky enough to have " a nursery bed in a quiet corner of the garden"
