Wild Bees

We seem to have a small colony of wild bees nesting near or in our compost heap. We were thinking about moving the compost heap this year and re-vamping the whole area but know what to do about the bees. Obviously we don't really want to disturb them but if we leave them will they hibernate there over winter and we will be in the same situation next year. Any thoughts?

The worker bees will die off at the end of the summer and the queens fly off to hibernate and emerge in the spring to make a new nest, so you should be fine to re-vamp in the late autumn/winter.  image
