Moving a Crab Apple tree

Hello All,

When I bought my house just over a year ago, there was a tree in the centre of the lawn, which turned out to be a beautiful red crabapple tree.  I want to move it to the front of the property, and had done a bit of research about times to move.  Late winter early spring was mentioned the most, and as we are rapidly approachng that time thought I would ask fellow gardener for any tips or advice.

The trunk at the widest is probably 7" in diameter, the height possibly 10'.  I thought I would heavily prune it, dig the new hole and then start on digging the tree out.  Anyone anything   that would be of use would be appreciated.

best wishes

Judith
