and for those of us who would rather be in the garden than hot and bothered in the kitchen the bases of frozen desserts and pizza etc.etc. make very good collars to keep root fly away and of course it means you don't feel guilty about buying them!

Isn't the hard part getting the caterpillars to sit still while you put the collar on them..?
