It looks like Japanese knot weed, take it out or it will engulf your garden and everybody elses !

Was going to say the same as Nez but wasn't sure- the leaves look unusually big but that's probably because it's so shaded. Everything else about it smells of Japanese knotweed.

Very patiently and thoroughly kill it absolutely dead with glyphosate.

    Not bindweed.

Not sure that its jap knot weed, it tends to have thicker red spotted stems. Is it on its own or is there more on the other side of the fence?

If you've been there ten years and its not spread, it's not jap knot weed.

  • I have been pulling out bind weed for the last two months and the plant in the photo does not look the same.  Also it invades and grows all over this looks a singleton.  Why not take a leaf to your local nursery and see what they can make of it first hand?

i dont think its bindweed as i have that elsewhere and it dont look the same

ive been here 10 years and only spotted this recently, in spring really, and thought id let it grow a bit to see what happened....now its getting bigger i thought id check with you guys... it seems to be a single plant, but ill try and take some better pics tomorrow

many thanks for your help so far image very much appreciated!

    Has it ever flowered?

  • HeftyHefty Posts: 370

it hasnt flowered to my knowledge - ill def take some better more detailed pics tomorrow, hopefuly they will help image

im glad its not looking 100% like knotweed!! its def a single plant and has always drooped over like that since spring, like its supposed to do that as opposed to it being an unhealthy/distressed plant, the knotweed pics look more sturdy and upright

im quite a "let it grow" kind guy, so would be cool to identify it image cheers all!
