Onion problem

yesterday, I assumed they were thirsty, so gave them a good watering. Tonight they are the same, but have noticed small holes in some of the leaves, and tiny white thrip looking thingies jumping around. I have googled this, but no pics that look like my onions do atm. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this, and are they salvagable? Thank you
