Unknown Plant

Last year this unknown plant appeared in our garden, it died back in the winter then reappeared this spring bigger than ever. We are keen to find out the name and origin of this plant, can anyone help please

    That's an interesting one Gerald. I don't recognise that. Where are you and what sort of soil have you got?

    It looks like a Hemerocallis (day lily) flower to me but am unsure about the leaves?

    Although I'm now thinking that with the central stigma shaped like it is and a stem with a seed head and no petals, it's more like a tulip (similar to Tulipa tarda or Tulipa sylvestris)?
