Ideas needed for an unusual planter.

I was recently lucky enough to pick up an old wooden wheelbarrow for a bargain price, and I am currently in the process of turning it into a planter for an unloved area of the garden.

However, I also have another spare bit of the garden which is a bit unsightly, and I would really appreciate some ideas on what else could be used to make a cool planter.

Pictures would be very welcome, and I will try to post some of my wheelbarrow when it's all finished. image

Hi Ice-twin, i like stone troughs planted up. Wooden barrels might go well with the wooden wheelbarrow though. Or how about planting up some old wellies or an old watering can? Hope you find what you're looking for!

I recently bought a book in our local Books for Less. New Container Style, only cost £2.99 and has heaps of ideas for using all kinds of recycled items as planters. You might be able to get a copy in your area Ice_Twin

Go to a farm sale and buy an old milk churn.  They're galvanised and look great in a 'natural' garden

Hmm... what would I do, with my phobia of 'bedding plants'?

In a shady spot - ferns, Hedera 'Ivalace', Ajuga reptans, Geranium 'Anne Folkard', white foxgloves.

In a sunny spot - chives, parsley, miniature tomatoes, alpine strawberries, curly kale. Like a barrow full of lovely garden produce!

Go to a farm sale and buy a nice large galvanised feed trough. They last for centuries
