Please could someone advise me on whether these are weeds before I start digging them up?

Many thanks image

The first looks like creeping buttercup. It should have white runners under the soil. The second does look a bit like a geranium, I'd leave it and see what happens. (Or transplant into pots and grow on).

I think they're geraniums, the second one definitely

A look at the roots will help rule out (or not) creeping buttercup. Note the white rhizomes -

I think the top one is buttercup, wrapped up in a sorrel? Could be wrong though.

    2nd definitely geranium.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

Erm... I'm still not sure image

It's creeping buttercup. 99.99% sure! Small root system of it's own (the fine roots) but has thick rhizomes connecting it to a wider network.

Ah that's a shame. Thanks everyone for your help and advice. As always, much appreciated! image

The other one might even be Meadow Buttercup as well - is there any growing nearby?

I'd pot that up Lena, and wait. I can't see white roots. They look like geranium roots to me. Something will happen this season then you'll knowimage
