Could someone please tell me when is the best time to take box cutting.

I would like to make some box balls, i know this will take quiet a few years.

Could you also advise me on what other plants i could use to make some think like the box ball that maybe a bit of a faster grower.

Thanks for the help.

You can take box cuttings now Lorna, they'll root quite readily. Lavender and rosemary lend themselves to topiary as does yew. There are others but it does take patience and the space to store the plants whilst they get to the stage where you prune and shape them. It takes several years of nipping out growing tips and light pruning. You can ball fuchsia's but you need to start them early to get the right effect.
