Hi, all, this is the picture I have been trying to upload! Unwanted plant given to me, which I believe is an Orchid, but not sure, can anyone identify and advise how to look after this. Thank you all who responded with advise ref uploading pics, after leaving and re-joining site this upload link is now available to me (patience is a virtue!) - much appreciated anyway - Look forward to replies - Regards Tony

Looks like a moth orchid
I find they don't need much looking after at all. Find it a bright windowsill, but not one that gets lots of direct sun - west or north facing is best. Give it some water when you remember (about once a fortnight seems just fine). Then forget about it for a while. Eventually it will produce a long green shoot, which you will need to tie on to some sort of thin stake, and flowers will then appear. The flowers last for about 3 months - so worth the wait.
Try giving it a bit of orchid growth feed in about 6-8 weeks time and try to give it rainwater at room temp. There's a thread in this forum about orchid care, well worth a look, also have a look on youtube. You can get hooked on orchids.........
I give mine either filtered water or rainwater at room temperature. I'm a novice at these and actually have some flower spikes.
PS also seem to not mind a bit of neglect, I rescued them last week
There is a step by step guide in GW magazine December 2012. It's what i used
I keep mine in my bathroom under a velux window so they get good overall light while resting after flowering. there's no direct sunlight on them and there's plenty of steam. I usually repot them at this time, especially when I've bought them in flower and some of the roots are dry and brown. I feed them weak solution of orchid 'growth' food, - wait 3-4 weeks after repotting though, until they throw out a new stem. These tend to grow nice and straight due to the over head light,I stake the stem and bring it down when the buds are full and change to 'bloom' food Put it on either an east or west facing window sill away from radiators............... and just enjoy it every day for weeks
another vote for an orchid
you can also get special orchid liquid feed
like to be watered only when compost is dry (about once a week) and never overwatered
bright light but not direct sun
cool-ish, no radiators/hot windowsills
might need flower stalks staked if a big variety
have fun and show us the flowers when they come!
