Start off in pots, indoors, keep them warm, harden off and plant out when the nights are warmer.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

I have been growing cucumbers in the greenhouse and on the patio for a couple of years. Currently seedlings still in 3" pots but due to go into grow bags with growpots quite soon. Greenhhouse variety is Beth Alpha. Patio ones La Diva, not tried them before. They are quite vigerous needing support, plenty watering and regular feeding but if all goes well produce loads of lovely cucumbers.

I have the growbags on a shelf and they grow up to the ridge of the roof and try and go down the other side too if they get the chance. Keeping them tied in a bit as they grow seems to help.
