Horse chestnut scale

Hello all.

My neighbour has pointed out I have Horse Chestnut Scale on a beloved Acer. I have found insecticides suggested for smaller plants (vitax, bug clear, Provado) but my tree is 8' by 6'. Does anybody have any suggestions please?

Provado is systemic so spreads throughout the tree when sprayed on the leaves and a systemic type of insecticide is the only one which is really effective against scale insects.  Luckily, acers don't flower so as long as you wait for a windless day there is little chance of harming pollinators and other beneficial insects.

    Didn't know that nut! image

I only grow for the leaves so if mine have flowered, I've just never noticed.image

I must check that, All trees and shrubs flower and seed naturally but some of those multi-disected red leaved ones are a long way fom natural

Looked it up - acers (to my surprise) are almost all insect pollinated!
