aww we feel like very proud parents, my husband came back about half an hour ago and said their was our fledgling on the garden table, he hung around for a while then made the short flight to the nearby russian vine then over the wall to the bay tree, where i can still here him i hope he survives, we got a photo but it's on my husbands phone at the mo. we didn't see any others around unless they fledged earlier as the box now sounds empty but i'll keeep an eye on it to see if the parents return to it.
I know you don't have to clean it out as they do it but what do they do if dead chicks are in there? mine is screwed shut and screwed to the fence post but i could get into it if i need to i guess.
here he is on the table, i have been watching him all day while in the garden, he's up in the tree in my neighbours garden, his mum has been buzzing about all day feeding him in the tree, he's so sweet, i've got so used to hearing his little call from the birdbox i seem to be able to hear him now above all the other birds songs.
I'm guessing only one chick survived as the parents have only been going to this one chick and there is no noise from the nest box now and the parents haven't been back in there today.
He's beautiful Sanjy! I have some baby Bluetits and blackbirds that all are being taught table manners in my garden, I don't have nesting boxes but will be making some soon! The neighbours took down the treestump that the robins were nesting in! Haven't seen any for two weeks now! So gonna make them welcome here! Miss them!Harrie my cat and i are watching robin birdsong on YouTube with the window open, trying to encourage them back!
