Any chance of a couple of photos and a little bit more info. eg. Which part of the country are you in; which direction does the garden face; what style are you after;low maintenance; hedge type etc....

Hi thanks for reply I was trying to add a photo but maybe it's because I'm on my phone lol! I'll maybe need to use my tab instead to add photos ???? the front garden is east facing the side is south facing but partly blocked a wall the hedge is 4ft high and about 41ft from the wall ending to the front of our house ???? ideally I imagined white picket fence with loads of lobelia cascading through the fence a pathway to the front door but I'm very much keen on keeping it very flowery and symmetrical as you come through the gate it's just the bit at the side that I'm struggling with I've pretty much got the outer edges sorted in my mind it's just filling the rest with ideas and designs ???? I'm Scotland so all plants have to be kind of suitable for the weather we get lol I'll try and upload a few pictures x

Do you like the cottage garden look? If I owned your property then I would look at modern contemporary landscaping but that is a personal taste.

I would paint the wall at the back either gray or white. In front I would plant a good sized palm tree (Trachycarpus fortunei are hardy in Scotland) in a large zinc planter and underfill with pink flowering plants. I would use slate as a path up the sides and lawn the rest. I think that would look quite nice.
