  • Thanks Verden for the plant list will see what i can do and post some pics when done....

  • Colour doesn't really matter as long as there is colour, im going to put membrane down first so coverage is most important to help with keeping weeds to a minimum.i do have a Hebe in the border already so going round that because its a nice plant and well established.

  • Thanks very much for the advice membrane out then good bark mulch sounds a much better idea.........................

Membranes not good for a border you'll want to (have to) dig from time to time. (They're more for permanent plantings with stone mulch and boulders etc).

Plants - Geranium 'Rozanne'/'Orion' - blue ones that flower from May to October, G 'Anne Thomson' - a magenta one that is also very long flowering. Rudbeckias are also good. Lavender and Nepeta 'Little Titch' love rather poor soil and will be good value for you!

Plant in groups and repeat some groups of the same thing (eg grasses, Lavernlavenders) throughout the garden, try and make it look harmonious and considered rather than a scattershot approach.
  • Cheers WillDB yea membrane definately out and Geraniums are wifes favourite and i do like lavender, gives me a starting point.............

Remember to pop something in for height, lupins, foxgloves(they will self seed) and delphiniums are gorgeous but need staking. Hollyhocks should do well too.

    Dont forget to post photos!

Weeds are flowers, too, once you get to know them.”
