Non flowering lilacs

Any suggestions on why neither of my lilacs have flowered this year? White lilac is two  years old and has flowered before. Mauve lilac 4 years old and this is first year it hasn't flowered.

There's a few reasons why they won't flower, are they in containers,if so could be too small,or late frost, don't cut back young bushes it will take years to recover,if they get waterlogged, don't give them any fertiliser, any scale insects on leaves.

Have they been pruned since they flowered last year, if so when and how?

  • Not in containers. Not been pruned. And no frost! Leaves are looking healthy though.
